* Get in close and fill the frame. Use contrasting colors so they jump out at you.
* A zoom lens makes it easy for you to compose and crop your image in the camera.
* A tripod allows you to compose the scene well. It also allows you to use a slow film and yet still get sharp images. Watch for wind rustling the leaves though. A slow fine-grain film for bold colors and sharp detail is a prerequisite.
* If you use color transparency film (slides) underexpose a little (half stop) to saturate the colors.
* Use a polarizing filter to reduce reflections and get good color saturation.
* Find water to reflect the image and effectively double its color.
* Play around a little. Try a long exposure while a strong wind blows the branches and leaves around.
